how i work

I am a  licensed psychotherapist providing therapy and counseling services via remote video conference and from my private practice office in Aspen, Colorado. I offer therapy and empirically-supported mindfulness tools to adults, adolescents and children and specialize in treating trauma, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, grief & loss, chronic illness and relational issues.

I believe the mind and body are inextricably integrated.  In other words, what we think will impact how we feel and how we behave.  Our primary task is to notice our thoughts and how our thoughts contribute to our feelings, behaviors and reactions.  I find that the most empowering part of therapy is the process and practice of developing compassionate awareness of our feelings, behaviors and reactions which can liberate us from unhelpful and painful patterns.  With dedication and a little old-fashioned patience (unfortunately, Amazon lost my magic wand in the mail), we can change our reactions into wise responses and feel more authenticity and ease through our day.

I use a variety of tools and techniques to aid the above process including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindful Self-Compassion, Attachment Theory, Relational Psychotherapy, Alternative Integrative Modalities and heaping dose of compassionate curiosity.

About me in the form of a podcAST

A great way to learn more about me and my psychotherapy style is to listen to the below podcast, Healers on Healing, where I discuss my take on psychotherapy and the process of healing, or as I like to call it, “getting well”.

What is Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a process. It is a process that, with willingness and commitment, will change painful patterns and restore your true self. Psychotherapy uses many tools, including conversation, guided exercises, and take-home work, to understand and alter habitual behaviors and thoughts that cause pain and suffering.

Psychotherapy also helps us to feel feelings, which we may have blocked off for a variety of reasons. Bringing awareness to your thoughts, behaviors and feelings, you will have the capacity to interrupt painful patterns and the ability relate to yourself and others in new, more fulfilling ways.

How Long Will I be in therapy

Clients are often wanting to know, "How long will I be in therapy?" The answer to this question, like many things in life, is, "It depends".  This timeline is unclear because it differs from person to person and in large part is due to what they want to work on.  Once exploration begins, additional material might pop up that was unseen prior to therapy, which can then be addressed in the treatment, thereby extending the duration of therapy.

Do you take insurance

I am not contracted as in-network with any insurance providers.  I can provide a super bill (if requested I will send to you monthly), which can then be submitted to your insurance provider for out-of-network mental health benefits.  These benefits will vary depending on your coverage and provider, and you should contact them prior to starting our work to confirm your coverage and reimbursement percentages.
